WD Begins Shipping Scorpio Blue 750 GB Hard Drive
Company says its WhisperDrive technology makes the hard drive “one of the quietest 2.5-inch drives on the market.”
Western Digital (WD) has begun shipping of its 750 GB, 2.5-inch notebook hard drive, the WD Scorpio Blue.
WD says its Scorpio Blue 750 GB hard drive is “one of the quietest 2.5-inch drives on the market.” The hard drive employs 375 GB-per-platter areal density and Advanced Format technology.
WD senior vice president and general manager Jim Morris says his company aims to provide large storage capacities to SMBs with a lot of data and rich media content, but not a lot of expendable capital. “Our power efficiency is another example of the added features and value that our customers have come to expect from WD,” he says.
Some of the features include efficiency and compatibility. The ultra-fast 3 GB per second SATA interface speed yields performance fit for many demanding mobile applications. WD has also conducted tests on hundreds of different systems and platforms in its FIT Lab and Mobile Compatibility Lab.
Additional features of the WD Scorpio Blue include:
- Advanced Format Technology–Increases media format efficiencies
- WhisperDrive–Combines seeking algorithms to optimize the way a drive seeks for data
- ShockGuard–Protects the drive mechanics and platter surfaces from shocks
- SecurePark–Parks the recording heads off the disk surface during spin up, spin down, and when the drive is off
The WD Scorpio Blue 750 GB (model WD7500BPVT) hard drives are shipping now through select distributors and resellers. MSRP for the WD Scorpio Blue 750 is $149.
WD Scorpio Blue hard drives are covered by a three-year limited warranty.
