Napatech’s New Feature Sets Address Traffic Generation and Capture and Relay Applications

Company introduces the feature sets just as it rolls out its NT20E2 2×10 Gbps PCI-Express Gen 2 in-line and capture network adapters.

Networking innovator Napatech has launched two new product features sets aimed at addressing traffic generation and capture and relay applications.

The introduction of the two feature sets coincides with Napatech’s rollout of the NT20E2 2×10 Gbps PCI-Express Gen 2 In-line and Capture network adapters.

According to Napatech president Erik Norup, his company has identified a need for network adapters focused on traffic generations and capture & relay applications. “While many of the features provided by our existing In-line family can be used in these markets, the needs are slightly different demanding different feature focus and performance,” he told EH Publishing in a statement. “For example, in in-line applications, latency is extremely important, but not an issue in traffic generation. Similarly, in In-line there is a need to receive and transmit at the same time, while in capture & replay, it is typical that capturing data and replaying data are two separate activities that need not coincide.”

The Traffic Generation and Capture & Relay feature sets are supported by the current 4-port 1 G and 2-port 10 G Napatech products as well as the new NT20E2 2×10 Gbps PCI-Express Gen 2 network adapters.

Key features for Traffic Generation are:

Full line-rate 20 Gbps Ethernet traffic generation 10 ns precision time-stamping of transmitted packets Transmit of packets according to individual packet time stamps Ethernet, TCP, and UDP checksum generation Configurable Inter-Frame Gap (IFG) Traffic generation that can be application-generated traffic or file-generated.

Key features for the Capture & Replay feature set are:

Full throughput 10 Gbps capture and analysis per port (max 20 Gbps) Full line-rate 10 Gbps replay per port (max 20 Gbps) Full capture feature set (similar to Napatech Capture adapters) 10 ns precision time-stamping on received and transmitted packets Replay of packets according to individual packet time stamps Hardware time synchronization based on GPS, IEEE1588v2, or CDMA Ethernet, TCP, and UDP checksum verification and generation Configurable Inter-Frame Gap (IFG)

In addition, Napatech says the adapter acceleration features enable on-the-fly, intelligent indexing of received frames for fast data retrieval from storage.
