Dell Introduces Detachable 13-Inch Latitude Notebook

Designed for on-the-go professionals who place a premium on mobility, the new device comes with an onboard stylus pen that charges to 100% capacity in just 30 seconds.

Dell Technologies has added a new detachable 2-in-1 to its Latitude laptop family for business users.

The Dell Latitude 7320, which is available immediately, is designed for on-the-go professionals like real estate agents, insurance adjustors, and sales reps who especially prize mobility.

“We are living in a ‘do-from-anywhere’ world—one where we’re not pinned down to any one location for any one activity, where collaboration or connection happens in many forms and from anywhere,” writes Meghana Patwardhan, Dell’s vice president of Latitude and mobility products, in a blog post. “We’ve designed our Latitude PCs for this new world.”

Weighing in at 1.82 lbs. and up for the tablet portion of the device alone, plus another 0.77 lbs. and up for the optional keyboard, the new device fits a 13-inch display into a chassis roughly the same size as its 12-inch predecessor, the Latitude 7210.

The new system supports up to 16GB of LPDDR4X SDRAM, and is powered by up to 11th Gen Intel Core i7 processors that according to Dell deliver a 54% performance improvement over the earlier detachable. Models bearing 11th Gen Core i7 vPro chips are coming soon as well.

Connectivity is provided by Intel Wi-Fi 6 technology, plus 4G LTE and eSIM options.

Upgrades meant to enhance videoconferencing include a new 500 nit, 1920×1280 FHD touchscreen display designed to provide brighter, sharper images even in low light. Made from scratch-resistant Gorilla Glass, the 3:2 ratio panel features Dell’s ComfortView Plus technology, which is designed to prevent eye strain by reducing blue light emissions.

The device also comes with a 5 MP front-facing camera and 8 MP rear-facing camera, both of which feature Temporal Noise Reduction technology.

Additional upgrades include a stylus pen that can be stowed inside the case, and that charges to 100% of capacity (enough to support 90 minutes of continuous use, Dell says) in an astonishing 30 seconds.

Like other Dell notebooks, the Latitude 7320 uses Dell’s AI-powered Optimizer technology to adjust application performance, battery life, and audio settings automatically in response to an individual owner’s usage patterns. It’s also the first business detachable to come with ExpressSign-in, a Dell feature that employs a proximity sensor to wake devices automatically when users come near, and then log them in immediately via Microsoft’s Windows Hello authentication system.

Though convertible form factors dominate the 2-in-1 market, hardware manufacturers continue to make detachables as well for mobile users who appreciate the ability to leave the keyboard in their laptop case rather than fold it back out of view. Lenovo, for example, showcased a 12-inch detachable at this year’s CES.

PC sales remain strong in 2021 so far, according to recent data from Gartner, despite a purchasing spike last year in response to the sudden switch to work-from-home computing brought about by the coronavirus pandemic.

The launch of the Latitude 7320 comes two weeks after Dell unveiled additions to its Inspiron portfolio of consumer notebooks.
