Hosted IT services provider CenterBeam Inc. has launched a new cloud-based solution to help SMBs better control and managing their fleet of mobile devices, like smartphones and tablets.
The solution, called Mobile Device Management Service enables SMB IT professionals to manage from a single platform any issued iPhones, iPads, and Android-based smartphones and tablets, along with laptops, PCs, servers, and other endpoints.
“The trend of employees bringing their own smartphones and tablets into the organization is just beginning,” says CenterBeam CTO/CSO Shahin Pirooz, “and it will be a growing challenge for IT staff, which will be responsible for supporting and ensuring that these consumer-owned mobile devices adhere to corporate policies.”

CenterBeam’s Mobile Device Management Service is an extension its broader unified endpoint management solution. It is based on the IBM Endpoint Manager for Mobile Devices, which is built on BigFix technology.
With this service, SMBs can support a wide variety of platforms, including Apple iOS, Google Android, Nokia Symbian, Windows Phone, and Windows Mobile. Capabilities of the Mobile Device Management Service include:
- Management Actions — Selective or full remote wipe of any device as well as denial of e-mail access, remote lock, and user notification.
- Application Management — Application inventory of devices, whitelist/blacklist of certain applications, and organization app store for downloading of pre-approved apps.
- Policy and Security Management — Set password policies, encrypt devices, and offer jailbreak and root detection.
- Enterprise Access Management — Configure e-mail, VPN access, and Wi-Fi capabilities.
