HP Introduces Commercial PCs, Mobile Workstations, and Deep Learning-Based Security Software

The new hardware features 8th Gen Intel Core vPro processors. The new security system draws on the most advanced form of artificial intelligence to provide real-time, behavior-based protection from malware.

HP Inc. has introduced a fresh crop of commercial laptops and mobile workstations, along with a new security system that utilizes deep learning technology to provide real-time, behavior-based protection from malware.

The hardware maker unveiled the new offerings today during its third annual EMEA Innovation Summit in Barcelona.

The commercial devices, all bearing 8th Gen Intel Core vPro processors, include four additions to HP’s EliteBook 800 Series of products. The EliteBook x360 830 G6 is a 2.97 lbs. convertible with a 13.3-inch display and 0.66-inch profile. Weighing in at 2.94 lbs. and just four hundredths of an inch thicker, the EliteBook 830 G6 also has a 13.3-inch display. The slightly heavier EliteBook 840 G6 and 850 G6 feature 14-inch and 15.6-inch displays, respectively.

All four models have touchscreen functionality and are designed to be easily viewable outdoors. A low-power panel option extends battery life to as many as 18 hours. Support for Wi-Fi 6 provides three times faster transfer speeds than prior-generation devices, while integrated Bluetooth 5.0 delivers four times the previous range. All of the new systems feature gigabit class 4G LTE connectivity and are designed to endure MIL-STD-810G testing.

Also making their debut today were two mobile workstations aimed at architects, engineers, and others looking for high performance in thin, light form factors. Equipped with a 14-inch display, the new HP ZBook 14u G6 weighs 3.27 lbs. and is 17.9 mm thin. Its cousin, the HP ZBook 15u G6, has a 15-inch screen, weighs 3.89 lbs., and is 18.6 mm in height. Both units run on quad-core 8th Gen Intel Core vPro chips, feature AMD 3D Radeon Pro graphics, and offer up to 2 TB of local PCIe storage.

All of the new PCs showcased today feature HP Sure Sense, a new anti-malware solution powered by deep learning functionality. Unlike machine learning technology, which requires training and instruction from security engineers, deep learning systems grow more effective at spotting and blocking attacks autonomously as they accumulate data over time.

The HP EliteBook 830 G6, HP EliteBook 840 G6, and HP EliteBook 850 G6 are set to ship in May, as is HP Sure Sense. The EliteBook 830 x360 G6 is scheduled to arrive the following month. Both the HP ZBook 14u G6 and HP ZBook 15u G6 are expected to become available on May 27th.

Announced today as well is the new HP EliteDisplay E324q, a 31.5-inch three-sided QHD display with HDMI, DisplayPort, and USB-C connections. It is slated to ship in June and list for $429.

“To achieve a culture of innovation, companies everywhere are focused on driving employee engagement and satisfaction, and the technology they deploy plays a significant role,” said Andy Rhodes, global head of commercial personal systems for HP, in a press statement. “We are helping businesses build the office of the future by delivering superior technology experiences that empower and delight today’s workers, while providing IT departments next-generation endpoint security to confidently face the threats of tomorrow.”

Last month, at its Reinvent conference in Houston, HP introduced new AMD-based EliteBooks, as well as a security-as-a-service addition to its device-as-a-service subscription procurement program.
