Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. has announced the new Eaton 3S battery backup. The 3S is a power protection and surge device integrated with Eaton’s intelligent Power Protector software.
The 3S systems are designed to protect SMB office equipment, desktop computers, networked workstations, and telephony equipment against costly power disturbances.
The 3S includes EcoControl power outlets on its 750 VA model that can control shutdown of accessory devices to save up to 30 percent in energy consumption. The 3S provides surge protection for up to 10 devices, including five battery backup receptacles.
The 3S works with Eaton’s free Intelligent Power Protector software, enabling SMBs to quickly and easily manage and monitor all of the power devices on a network. The software is designed to conduct a safe and graceful shutdown of powered devices when an extended power outage occurs.
“By combining simple plug-and-play installation and an energy-efficient design with advanced power protection software, our new 3S models offer affordable, easy-to-use power protection for small offices and retail environments,” says Hervé Tardy, Eaton’s senior vice president and general manager in the company’s distributed power quality division.
The 3S is ready to operate out of the box with Windows, Macintosh, and Linux systems. The sleek, black glossy design of the 3S complements modern office environments and is available in wall-mountable desktop models.
According to Eaton, the 550 VA and 750 VA units pack enough battery power to keep typical PCs running for 20 to 45 minutes “depending on model and configuration.”
The 3S units feature user-replaceable batteries and a three-year warranty. They are available now in North America, with prices starting at $76.
