ioSafe Introduces SSD Version of Its Solo Product

Solid state drives join the data backup and recovery innovator’s line of rugged external hard drives.

Building off its Solo desktop external hard drive, ioSafe has announced what it calls “the world’s Ô¨Årst solid state external hard drive built to protect data from building collapse, Ô¨Åres, and Ô¨Çoods.

The ioSafe Solo is an external hard drive that attaches to a computer usinioSafe's Solo SSD g a standard USB connection. Set up is a simple process, and most computers are immediately able to use the additional capacity. The new ioSafe Solo SSD is a solid state, highly ruggedized model of that product.

ioSafe says its Solo SSD, combined with ArmorPlate technology, aims to protect data in “a two story building collapse, 5000-lb. crush forces, 20-foot drop into rubble, and up to a 1000g shock.”

Feature the company’s HydroSafe, FloSafe, and DataCast technologies, the SSD maintains cool temperatures, even in fire or complete water submersion, the company says.†

The ioSafe Solo SSD comes with ioSafe’s Data Recovery Service, a policy crafted by ioSafe to “help customers recover from any data disaster including accidental deletion, virus or physical disaster.”

ioSafe CEO Robb Moore says the Solo SSD sports USB interface, enabling fast data transfers and compatibility with almost any Microsoft, MS Server, Linux, or Mac OS. “The ioSafe Solo SSD can be used alone or in conjunction with any offsite or online backup strategy to add real time, zero data loss, synchronous disaster protection to any data that sits vulnerable,” he says.

“SMBS that struggle with disaster recovery and regulatory compliance, such as HIPAA, PCI, or Sarbanes Oxley, can use ioSafe hardware to add simple, inexpensive, and secure protection,” Moore says. “The ioSafe Solo is one of the easiest, fastest and least expensive ways to protect your data.”

Prices for the Solo SSD are $499 for 64 GB, $749 for 128 GB, and $1250 for 256 GB.

The ioSafe Solo SSD will be shipping in February 2010 and available through the ioSafe Web site as well as Ingram Micro and other international distributors.
