California Fire Brings Attention to Fireproof External Hard Drive
Auburn, Calif.-based ioSafe demonstrates its “disaster-proof” 1.5 TB backup solution just months before 63-home fire tears through the city.
The Auburn Journal out of Auburn, Calif. had a lot of news to report in August when the so-called 49 Fire burned 63 homes on Highway 49 in Auburn.
The fire, though tragic, brought some good attention to Auburn, Calif.-based ioSafe, makers of disaster-proof hard drives–hardware that can withstand extreme fire and water conditions.
The ioSafe Solo, launched at the start of the year, is an external hard drive for SMBs that plugs into a desktop or laptop via USB port.†
Holding up to 1.5 TB of data, the $149 external hard drive is both fireproof and waterproof, says the manufacturer.
For more information, about Solo, a downloadable PDF spec sheet is available on the ioSafe Web site.
According to the Auburn Journal, ioSafe CEO Robb Moore demonstrated his company’s disaster-resistant backup product by heating a1,400-degree gas oven and placing the device inside. “When the flames subsided, he retrieved them and demonstrated that the data on the protected hard drive had survived unscathed,” reporter Auburn Journal staff writer Gloria Young.
Moore told the Journal that his company sympathized with the victims of the 49 Fire. “My house is a quarter-mile from the fire,” he said. “My heart goes out to all of the people affected by the fire.”†
