Two New VAIO Lines Debut at CES

Z Series and F Series notebooks employ the latest Intel Core technologies and are designed for media-centric users.

Sony took the wraps off two innovative PC lines at CES in Las Vegas last week: VAIO Z Series and the VAIO F Series notebooks.

“Sony engineers have raised the bar once again” said

VAIO senior vice president, business group, Mike Abary said the product releases have “raised the bar” for portable computing.

“By melding cutting-edge technologies, such as a Blu-ray Disc optical drive, HDMI output, and a hybrid graphics system into highly-mobile PCs,” Abary says, “consumers can now enjoy HD content on their terms- in the living room, on-the-go, wherever.”

Both notebooks come equipped with an assist button that links directly to VAIO Care software to help maintain and troubleshoot any issues. They also incorporate backlit keyboards for typing in dark situations.

Z Series
At just over three pounds, the Z Series notebook is housed in a durable carbon-fiber aluminum chassis and delivers all the features found in a full-sized PC, including the latest powerful Intel processor technology.

The Z Series comes with Windows 7 Professional operating system.

The Z Series comes exclusively in solid state drive (SSD) models up to 512GB. The SSD unit provides a rapid boot-up and quicker access to applications than is typical of standard hard drives.

The new Z Series incorporates a 13.1-inch (diagonal) high-resolution LED backlight screen. It also sports an optional Blu-ray disc optical drive

The Z Series boasts a dynamic hybrid graphics system as well. It also integrates wireless 3G Mobile Broadband technology provided by Verizon Wireless Mobile Broadband Built-In (optional), Wi-Fi (802.11n), and Bluetooth wireless technologies. For 3G Mobile Broadband technology, a separate Verizon service subscription is required (fees apply).

The VAIO Z Series will retail for about $1,900 and be available in late spring.

VAIO F Series
The F Series employs an Intel Core TM i7 Processor with 4 cores. It supports Hyper-Threading and Turbo Boost technologies, delivering the performance needed for multitasking.

The F Series is loaded with Windows Home Premium 64-Bit operating system.

Featuring a 16.4-inch (diagonal) screen, the VAIO F Series is a multi-media, entertainment notebook. It incorporates an optional Blu-ray Disc optical drive and an extra-wide LCD. It also has an HDMI output connector for TV viewing.

An NVIDIA GeForce dedicated graphics card provides high-definition graphics. Sony’s own Media Gallery software enables creation of movies and slideshows for both entertainment and business presentations.

The PC incorporates Sony’s own Transfer Jet technology (select models), which enables wireless transfer of digital photos from digital cameras. (A Transfer Jet enabled digital camera and Memory Stick are required.)

The F Series will start at around $1,000 and is available online.
