OKI Data Americas has introduced a new printer and MFP designed to embed functionality typically associated with larger business equipment in desktop devices suited to SMB budgets.
Both the C532dn, a color A4 printer, and MC573dn (pictured), a high-definition color MFP with a customizable 7-inch color touchscreen, are tailored to the needs of businesses with up to 500 employees operating in an era of online applications, smartphones, tablets, and BYOD policies, according to Tina Tuccillo, Mount Laurel, N.J.-based OKI Data’s vice president of marketing for office products.
“Cloud and mobility are necessities in today’s work environment,” she says.
To support mobile users, both devices come with built-in support for Apple’s AirPrint wireless printing feature and the 2.0 release of Google Cloud Print, as well as optional Wi-Fi connectivity.†For an extra fee, the MC573dn also offers optional connectors to three popular cloud-based file repositories: Microsoft Office 365, Google Drive, and Dropbox.
In addition, the MC573dn includes OKI Data’s Smart Managed Document Solutions package, which helps organizations automate maintenance processes and optimize print-related spending, as well as a free copy of the vendor’s SENDYS Explorer Lite document management solution. Built-in APIs enable the device to interoperate with more sophisticated third-party solutions such as PaperCut MF, from PaperCut Software International, and Drivve Inc.’s Drivve Image solution.
“It brings that large workflow application to the small and medium-sized business,” Tuccillo says.
The C532dn and MC573dn both print up to 31 duplex pages per minute and hold as many as 1,410 sheets when equipped with optional expansion trays. 1 GB of memory is standard, as is a 1-year onsite warranty backed by 24/7 North America-based technical support.
Security functionality in both devices includes native support for the IPsec security protocol, to protect documents in transit over public connections, as well as private print and card reader features that allow only authorized users to retrieve documents bearing sensitive information.
Price points for the two devices are scaled to the constraints of businesses with limited hardware budgets. MSRPs begin at $449 for the C532dn and at $899 for the MC573dn.
“It’s very competitively priced,” Tuccillo says of the latter product.
OKI Data’s latest offerings, which are available now through the vendor’s business technology and IT channels, follow a crop of color printers and MFPs shipped last November. Equipped with many of the same capabilities as the models announced today, those earlier products are optimized for SMB environments as well.
