Level Platforms Further Ties Intel vPro Technology into Managed Workplace

Managed Workplace 2010 delivers support for Serial over LAN and IDE Redirect connections, enabling users to create those connections directly from the Web-based Service Center.

LPI Level Platforms Inc, provider of the managed services software platform Managed Workplace, announced this week that “deeper” integration of Intel vPro Technology has been built into its managed services solution.

Intel vPro processor technology enables remote access to PCs for monitoring and management, independent of the state of the operating system or power state of the PC itself.

Managed Workplace, an Intel vPro-certified MSP platform, currently provides monitoring and management features for Intel vPro-enabled devices, including:

  • Remote power management
  • Off-hours maintenance capabilities via integrated Power On and Power Off features
  • Ability to discover Intel vPro assets out-of-band
  • Monitoring and alerting of system-critical boot events

Now in beta and to be released shortly, Managed Workplace 2010 delivers support for Serial over LAN (SOL) and IDE Redirect (IDE-R) connections. Users of Managed Workplace will be able to create both SOL and IDE-R connections directly from its Web-based central dashboard Service Center so that users can use SOL to boot an unavailable device to the BIOS and view start-up POST messages.

With IDE‚ÄêR, users can mount an image from a network share drive, CD‚ÄêROM, or floppy disk image onto an Intel vPro-enabled device over a standard network connection. For the Level Platforms solution, the bootable image is located on the Managed Workplace Onsite Manager, an agentless software component at the customer site. Once an IDE‚ÄêR session is established from the management console at the service provider’s central Service Center, the Intel vPro-enabled device boots from the remote media as if it were directly attached to one of its own IDE channels. With this capability, MSPs are able to quickly reboot corrupted systems remotely from an image within their customer network.

Managed Workplace 2010 also automatically detects and classifies Intel AMT-enabled devices in the Service Center, enabling technicians to immediately know which devices could benefit from Intel vPro-enabled capabilities even for devices newly added to the customer networks.

Peter Sandiford, CEO of Level Platforms, believes PCs equipped with Intel vPro technology are the “only way to go.” He calls the Intel vPro integration “an integral part of leveraging our advanced agentless architecture to deliver the most comprehensive PC management for SMBs.”

Speaking for Intel, Lisa Watts, the company’s director of business client ecosystem development, says the integration of its vPro technologies into the Level Platforms product provides clear benefits to MSPs. “Intel vPro Technology capabilities allow MSPs to increase their service level agreement,” she says, “while helping lower the cost to deliver those services for SMBs.”
