Vendor to Watch: Devolutions

Devolutions makes a privileged access and password management solution designed to keep technicians safe without slowing them down.

IF YOU WORK in IT management, you know the conundrum. You can be secure or you can be productive, but to be both simultaneously is hard.

“”That’s exactly where we want to come in as a company,”” says Max Trottier (pictured), vice president of sales and marketing at Devolutions. The company’s flagship solution, Remote Desktop Manager, combines password management, privileged access management, and more in one easy-to-use platform that connects with all the endpoints, applications, and network devices administrators must support.

“”We gather all these technologies together and put them in a single dashboard that becomes a Swiss army knife for all your help desk technicians,”” Trottier says.

Currently used by some 750,000 people worldwide, the system provides quick access to over 160 hardware and software products without showing administrators the passwords they’re using, resulting, according to Trottier, in a compelling balance of security and productivity. Additional features include the ability to store credentials in different vaults, assign role-based permissions, prepare audit trails, and view activity logs.

The solution is simple to deploy as well. “”Everything is out of the box,”” Trottier says, and often ready for use within a few hours. Most of the system’s core components, including its remote access management, privileged access management, password management, and two-factor authentication modules, can be purchased stand-alone as well.

Both free and paid versions of the software are available. Volume-based discounts on the paid edition, which vary based on your tier in the Devolutions partner program, reach as high as 35%.

On the roadmap for future release is a cloud-based credential repository for use alongside or in place of the current on-premises data store. Trottier can’t say much beyond that about the new feature except that it will keep technicians both secure and productive all at once.
