Unitrends Ships New Edition of Recovery Series Backup Appliances

Equipped with self-healing storage and more room for data, the product’s “Gen 8” release is designed to help users save on power, cooling, and IT labor costs.

Unitrends has announced the new “Gen 8” release of its Recovery Series backup solution.

The new edition of the†Burlington, Mass.-based BDR vendor’s flagship BDR†appliance includes self-healing storage functionality and enhanced disk density designed to store more data in less space while reducing power and cooling costs by up to 60 percent.

Gen 8 Recovery Series appliances come with version 10.2 of Unitrends Backup, which†features a redesigned backup catalog that Unitrends says significantly reduces the time IT administrators spend on repetitive task management.†

“With each new iteration of our product, we push the limits to deliver the most functionally rich backup appliance that will simplify the lives of our customers,” said Joe Noonan, vice president of product management and marketing for Unitrends, in a press statement. “Our customers trust and depend on us to continually innovate to ensure the livelihood of their business, which is a huge responsibility that we don’t take lightly. That’s why we’ve added a broader range of models to our Recovery Series line, so our customers can choose the size that best fits both their storage and budget needs today with the flexibility to easily scale up or out tomorrow.”

Gen8 Recovery Series appliances are available in 15 models with capacities ranging from 2 TB to 120 TB. The new appliances are designed to store more data and at the same time cut power and cooling costs. The self-healing storage monitors and corrects sources of hardware failures, and if needed, notifies the customer and opens support tickets, speeding up the remediation process.

“Exponential data growth has put IT teams under mounting pressure to control data center sprawl, optimize efficiency, and eliminate data center complexity without increasing costs,” said Diane Bierman, vice president of† sales at MNJ Technologies, in prepared remarks. †”Unitrends Recovery Series appliances tackles all of these challenges in a cost-saving, all-in-one solution that enterprises can rely on to back up their mission-critical data.”

Unitrends merged with IT management software vendor Kaseya Ltd. in May and introduced an overhauled version of its partner program earlier this month.
