Desktop as a Service (DaaS) provider Desktone Inc. has extended its cloud-hosted desktop platform with an on-premises, cloud-managed virtual desktop solution. The new offering resides at the customer site and is managed remotely via a cloud provider.
According to Desktone, the virtual desktop solution gives SMBs, “the flexibility to choose the cloud model that best suits their business: public, private, or hybrid.”
“Now, Desktone provides the flexibility by offering different desktop options, including Microsoft RDS, VDI, and Remote Apps, across public private and hybrid cloud environments,” states a Desktone press release submitted to Channelpro-SMB, “eliminating the barriers associated with traditional VDI deployments.”
“Cloud-hosted virtual desktops offer great benefits, but not everyone is ready or willing to go 100 percent hosted,” explains Desktone CEO Peter McKay. “Some businesses want to leverage the capacity of their own private infrastructure as a service (IaaS) environment or retain more control by keeping hardware on-premises. Others want a hybrid model.”
Desktone’s on-premises, cloud-managed virtual desktop solution enables service providers to deploy virtual desktops in the customer’s data center and remotely mange provisioning and ongoing management. By leveraging Desktone’s multi-tenancy and multi-data center capabilities, service providers can securely manage virtual desktops for multiple customers using a single platform, while IT can easily add, remove, and edit their virtual desktops across locations.
The new on-premises offerings include both enterprise and SMB/Branch Office configurations. For example:
- SMBs can leverage existing private cloud IaaS environments or use the Desktone blueprint, which includes a choice of server hardware, NetApp or EMC storage, and desktop virtualization software.
- SMBs and branch office deployments can deploy a pre-configured, all-in-one virtual desktop appliance, which includes GreenByte’s vIO virtual storage, as well as compute and desktop virtualization software.
- Cloud providers, such as Dell, Fujitsu, Time Warner Cable, and Dimension Data, have selected Desktone’s Platform to offer hosted desktops and apps as a cloud service.
