Mimecast Announces Forthcoming Improvements to Its Email Security Product

New features of Mimecast Email Security are designed to help boost productivity for SMBs, supply greater user autonomy, and provide IT pros with better visibility of e-mail security.

Cloud-based email archiving, continuity, and security provider Mimecast has announced that the next generation of its Mimecast Email Security will be made available this fall.

Mimecast Announces Forthcoming Improvements to Its Email Security ProductNew features of Mimecast Email Security are designed to help boost productivity for SMBs and address a growing appetite for end-user autonomy while still providing IT departments with full visibility of the organization’s e-mail security.

Specifically, SMB users will be able to manage their own security settings a per-message basis in combination with centralized controls that will enable IT managers to activate features and permissions for specific individuals or groups. “This functionality includes end user controls as well as attachment and blocked sender management in compliance with security requirements,” the company states in a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB.

The new Mimecast Email Security version will enable end users to:

  • Report spam and manage blocked sender lists from within Microsoft Outlook
  • Manage personal hold or moderation queues.
  • Access messages from within Microsoft Outlook.
  • Choose from available secure delivery options manually (including Mimecast’s proprietary Closed Circuit Messaging).
  • Remove unwanted or hidden metadata (such as tracked changes) or convert documents to PDF via intuitive document options.
  • Replace attachments with links to downloadable files securely hosted by Mimecast via a user-activated “strip and link” functionality.
  • Apply various branding options to specific messages via an email stationary and branding selection tool.

At the same time IT departments will be able to:

  • Activate functions for individual employees or subsets of users via granular permission controls.
  • Set and manage security policies, retaining control over all default settings.
  • Facilitate client-side installation via existing software systems.
  • Reduce time spent on basic system administration tasks via such user enablement as quarantine management and the recovery of lost or deleted items.

“From talking to our customers, it was clear that they wanted to find a way to empower users without compromising the overall security of the business,” says Grant Hodgkinson, Mimecast’s product director. “By building granular controls and permissions into Mimecast Email Security and adding functionality, we want to help SMB IT departments find a balance between productivity, flexibility, and control. This technology is designed to enable IT teams to retain visibility and control where it is needed while giving individual users greater power over their own email in a way that makes both sides more productive.”
