Scale Computing Expands M-Series with Mz Storage Nodes

The scale-out storage nodes feature 10 GbE network connectivity for increased throughput.

Virtualization and archiving storage innovator Scale Computing has announced availability of its Mz model scale-out storage nodes. The Mz scale-out storage nodes were designed specifically for SMBs.

Scale Computing Expands M-Series with Mz Storage Nodes Part of Scale’s M-Series, the Mz storage nodes feature 10 GbE network connectivity. According to Scale Computing, this provides up to 10 times the throughput for workloads that would otherwise be limited by 1 GbE transfer rates.

“Mz storage nodes also deliver better performance with 1 GbE clients,” states Scale Computing in a press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB. “Faster node-to-node communication to manage network RAID operations translates to significant performance improvements even if the clients on the public network are not using 10 GbE connectivity.”

“As the volume of data stored by SMEs continues to grow at a rapid pace, so too does the demand for performance,” adds Scale Computing CEO Jeff Ready. “The Mz storage nodes are ideal for the vast majority of SMB uses cases, such as archiving, virtualization, virtual desktops, disk-based backup, and some database loads..”

Scale Computing’s bases its storage portfolio on the company’s Intelligent Clustered Operating System †(ICOS) technology, which enables users to add storage hardware (known as storage nodes) as needed — without suspending services or migrating data. IT managers are able to build out storage clusters, starting with just 6 TB.

As a unified storage platform, Scale’s line of scale-out storage solutions provides for simultaneous SAN and NAS services from a single pool of storage, providing clustered and scalable storage. Scale’s storage portfolio aims to reduce costs while increasing control as well as make storage management more convenient for IT administrators.

Mz nodes are available in 1 TB, 2 TB, and 4 TB of storage capacity. To ensure shipment by the end of 2011, pre-orders must be placed by Nov. 22, 2011. Pricing information is available via Scale Computing channel reps.
