Blue Coat Systems, a Web security and WAN optimization provider, is offering the Blue Coat ProxyOne appliance. The ProxyOne appliance is the first from Blue Coat to bring enterprise-grade Web security to SMBs.
Web-based threats are more dangerous than ever, particularly for smaller companies with limited IT resources. Traditional network security is not enough to keep up with the constantly evolving malware out on the Web. †The Blue Coat ProxyOne appliance integrates Web filtering, inline malware and anti-virus scanning and on-box reporting for safer use of Web 2.0 applications.† To provide protection without requiring Web security expertise, the appliances include pre-configured policies and automatic software upgrades and security updates.†
The ProxyOne appliances deliver the following benefits:
- Real-time defense: For real-time ratings and protection against Web threats, ProxyOne appliances use Blue Coat WebFilter and connect to the cloud-based Blue Coat WebPulse service.† This protection is extended to remote users through Blue Coat ProxyClient software at no additional cost.
- Maintaining performance:† With inline malware and anti-virus scanning at the Web gateway, ProxyOne appliances block malware executables before they get on the network.† Using advanced caching technologies, ProxyOne appliances speed the scanning process, so performance is not affected.††
- Identify infected end users:† ProxyOne appliances provide on-box reporting of Web-based user activity, including potentially infected end users, compliance with usage policies and the number of threats attempting to access the network.† The interface allows businesses to customize the primary reporting window. The product also extends to remote users.
- Prevent video floods:† Using a combination of stream-splitting and caching technologies, ProxyOne appliances prevent “video floods” that are caused when online video saturates the network.
“This is enterprise grade security for a smaller company,” said Sasi Murthy, senior director of product marketing at Blue Coat. “Smaller businesses are more reliant on the web [than enterprises], and for channel partners who service the smaller businesses, this is a great opportunity.”
Murthy also explained that Blue Coat partners can offer a trial of the product. The ProxyOne can be purchased at a fraction of the price to allow customers a 30-day trial – if the customer isn’t happy, the product can be returned to Blue Coat for credit.
The product is designed for 500-1500 seats, with a 100 user minimum and a 2000 user maximum.
