Industrial manufacturer Eaton Corp. has updated its line of supervision and protection products to be compatible with Microsoft’s new Windows 7 operating system. Eaton’s software family–including Intelligent Power Manager, NetWatch, Network Shutdown Module (NSM), Personal Solution-Pac, and LanSafe–enables Windows 7 servers and PCs to be monitored and safely shut down during a power failure
“Windows 7 is Microsoft’s most advanced Windows operating system for business and home PCs, designed to meet the evolving needs of users and IT professionals, both in and out of the office,” says Hervé Tardy, vice president and general manager of Eaton’s distributed power quality business unit. “Eaton’s suite of power management and protection software brings together the ease of use of Windows 7 machines with the security, protection, control, and simplicity of managing and monitoring uninterruptible power system [UPS]-protected PCs and servers.”
According to Eaton, the company’s Intelligent Power Manager software can “substantially lower costs for supervising networked UPSs and associated equipment.” Furthermore, the company says its Intelligent Power Manager can carry out scans for all the UPS systems on the network “regardless of vendor” and discover and manage other critical power components.
Eaton reports that its shutdown agents, NetWatch and NSM, provide server protection compatible with the latest Microsoft Virtualization features (Hyper-V and Hyper-V server). NetWatch and NSM shut down virtual machines and host servers powered by the UPS in the event of a prolonged power outage. These agents feature easy and assisted installation along with remote management and are available as a free download through the Eaton Power Quality Web site.
