Teradata Rolls Out Upgraded Data Warehouse Line

The server products are powered by Intel Xeon processors, and each features an optimized parallel design that employs Intel Hyper-Threading technology.

Teradata Corp. has enhanced and updated its family of data warehouse servers.

Teradata’s data warehouses are powered by Intel Xeon processors (codenamed Westmere). Each server product sports an optimized parallel design and employs Intel Hyper-Threading technology, which enables 24 virtual cores per compute server.

Each server offers the Teradata 13.10 database, which the company calls “the industry’s first time-aware database.” Teradata 13.10 delivers new temporal analytics aimed at providing greater visibility into data while removing the expense, implementation overhead, and errors from managing and manipulating time-based history. In addition, Teradata 13.10 offers Teradata Viewpoint, an innovative management Web-based portal that gives users a complete view of their Teradata analytic ecosystem.

The newly enhanced server products from Teradata Corp. include:

  • Active Enterprise Data Warehouse 5650–This product was designed to run more complex and increased workloads, continuous and batch loads, operational queries, simple reporting, and complex analytics for thousands of users on a single same platform. It works equally well with workloads that are either central processing unit or I/O intensive. It also coexists with Teradata’s four prior generations of Linux-based Active Enterprise Data Warehouse platforms.
  • Extreme Performance Appliance 4600–This product is a data warehouse based solely on solid state drive (SSD) technology. Teradata partnered with the leading SSD manufacturer Pliant Technology Inc. and storage component maker LSI Corporation to design this SSD data warehouse. The new appliance currently offers up to 17 TB of uncompressed capacity.
  • Data Warehouse Appliance 2650–This product is the company’s fourth generation appliance. It includes 2.5-inch disk drives to improve parallelism and performance. It also offers 300 GB, 600 GB, or 2 TB capacities for up to 59 TB of uncompressed user data per cabinet. It also enables users to configure systems from as little as 2 TB of capacity up to 275 TB of user data.†The Data Warehouse Appliance includes an expanded software bundle that was unavailable in its predecessor, but adds new, free appliance backup utility for moving data to an external data store.
  • Extreme Data Appliance 1650–This product is designed for extremely large data sets. Using 2 TB drives, the system can scale to 187 petabytes of uncompressed data.
  • Data Mart Appliance 560–This product is and entry-level system for SMBs seeking a fully integrated and pre-packaged solution for sophisticated intelligence apps. The single cabinet can be as small as 2 TB and can scale to 11.7 TB of uncompressed capacity of user data. The Data Mart Appliance includes improved system management features, such as remote management through Teradata Customer Services. Plus, users can add up to four Teradata Managed servers for a variety of applications, such as Viewpoint, SMS, and Load Servers.
