Tech Data U.S. Adds Software Licensing Support for ISVs

Tech Data Corporation will now assist independent software vendors (ISVs) with new software licensing services and support. The Clearwater, Fla.-based distributor will help ISVs leverage the Microsoft ISV Royalty Licensing Program, which enables ISVs to sell their software applications integrated with licensed Microsoft products such as Exchange, SQL Server, Office, and SharePoint. 

"The Microsoft ISV royalty program is an extremely valuable resource for many ISVs," says Tech Data Vice President, Software Product Marketing Stacy Nethercoat. "It enables ISVs to develop software applications that fully integrate with many widely used Microsoft platforms. Tech Data and Microsoft are partnering to further enhance the program by making it easier for ISVs to identify and procure the right Microsoft product licenses, as well as performing many administrative tasks on their behalf."

Microsoft ISV Royalty Licensing Program participants develop software applications that leverage the functionality of Microsoft products. For example, an ISV may develop a patient record-keeping application comprised of an intuitive, custom-designed interface through which doctors and nurses input, manage, and retrieve data from a Microsoft SQL database. The Royalty Licensing Program enables the ISV to sell its software with the Microsoft SQL product as a single, unified solution. ISVs can brand the software as their own and sell it electronically, on disk, or pre-loaded on desktops, servers, or other hardware devices.

Tech Data has trained its Microsoft solutions team on the ISV Royalty Licensing Program to help participating ISVs more easily navigate the program and its licensing requirements. The distributor will help them track licenses for renewals and build monthly usage reports submitted to Microsoft as part of the program. Additionally, Tech Data will offer ISVs Microsoft Gold Media, which they can use to develop their integrated solutions.
