SolarWinds MSP Upgrades N-central Mobile App

Available for both iOS and Android devices, the new edition of the vendor’s RMM app for smartphones and tablets arrives on the same day parent company SolarWinds announced that it has acquired cloud-based log monitoring and analytics vendor Loggly.

Managed services software maker SolarWinds MSP, of Durham, N.C., has shipped an updated edition of the mobile administration app for its N-central RMM system.

Available for both iOS and Android devices, the new version of N-central Mobile allows technicians to view dashboards, review alerts, and launch scripts while on the go from their smartphone or tablet.

Other key features in the solution, which received a major interface overhaul for Android users last April, include the ability to initiate anti-virus scans, apply patches, execute or verify backups, and take remote control of endpoints.

“We are pleased to announce that users of SolarWinds N-central can now view the health of networks under their management from any iOS or Android device—if an issue needs to be reviewed and managed while on the road, SolarWinds N-central Mobile app has it covered,” said Greg Lissy, vice president of product management at SolarWinds MSP, in prepared remarks. “For example, if an end user loses a device—which may include personal client information such as credit card details—the mobile app has the ability to immediately lock down the device, reset the password, or fully wipe the device, all from their smartphone or tablet.”

MSPs eager to access essential administrative functions while away from their desks increasingly expect RMM solutions to come with intuitive, touch-controlled mobile apps, and managed services tool vendors are clamoring to meet that demand. SolarWinds MSP, for example, introduced a mobile app for its MSP Manager help desk solution in July, while Kaseya Ltd. rolled out an upgraded app for its VSA RMM platform featuring the same interface as the desktop version of that product a year ago. Upstart RMM and PSA platform Pulseway, meanwhile, has featured a mobile-first interface since it first came into existence.

Elsewhere today, SolarWinds MSP’s parent company, SolarWinds Worldwide LLC, of Austin, Texas, announced that it has acquired Loggly Inc., a San Francisco-based maker of SaaS log monitoring and analytics software, for an undisclosed sum. The transaction complements SolarWinds’ existing portfolio of hosted monitoring solutions, according to Christoph Pfister, the company’s executive vice president of products.

“Rapidly visualizing vast amounts of data through log analytics is absolutely critical to solving many problems in today’s diverse, complex cloud-application and microservices environments,” said Pfister in a press statement. “Adding Loggly to our industry-leading portfolio will empower customers to accelerate their time-to-insight and solve problems faster, with our usual, disruptive affordability.”

Other products in the SolarWinds SaaS portfolio include Pingdom, a digital experience monitoring system, and AppOptics, an application performance management solution. The company updated the former product last August and the latter one last September.
