Lenovo Unveils New ThinkCentre Tiny Chromebox

Remember that ThinkCenter Tiny-in-One we reviewed not long ago, where the M92p could just slide right in to power it? Now there’s a Chrome version.

Remember that ThinkCenter Tiny-in-One we reviewed not long ago? At the time, the only thing you could slide into it was the ThinkCenter Tiny M92p, a fully featured Windows PC. Today at their Accelerate Conference in Las Vegas, Lenovo announced a new Tiny Chromebox for the ThinkCenter line that can do the same as its Windows counterpart.

Lenovo states their new Chromebox is aimed at education and small business users seeking a more cloud-based solution, although education deployments in schools already tied to Google Apps seem like a more natural fit. The hardware itself is small, and can be used as a standalone Chromebox or mounted in the ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One to instantly offer a 23-inch all-in-one experience.

“Lenovo was the first to introduce a one litre commercial desktop and ThinkCentre Chromebox is a testament to our commitment to the continued evolution of the desktop and our promise to push the boundaries on innovation for our education and business customers.” said Ouyang Jun, vice president and general manager, Desktop and Visuals, Lenovo. “Combined with the ThinkCentre Tiny-in-One, the new Chromebox illustrates our belief in more flexibility for teachers and IT managers to continue to offer desktop solutions in a modern day environment.”

Their presser goes on to discuss a few of Chrome OS’s selling points, namely low cost hardware and simpler management/security. Deploying these Tiny PCs, particularly with the All-in-One add one, should reducing the time required to deploy hardware and supposedly minimize end user downtime.

As Lenovo is known for, it’s got a full range of mounting and port expansion accessories ready to go that allows users to place it practically anywhere and connect to numerous devices, offering true freedom of deployment. You can see our review of the M92p for more on these. Lenovo is looking to ship the Tiny Chromebox in June for $199.
