Five key takeaways for MSPs from ConnectWise CEO Jason Magee

The company’s latest initiatives seek to simplify operations through AI and more, Magee says.

ConnectWise CEO Jason Magee recently shared some key insights in a roundtable with about a dozen media representatives during the IT Nation Connect conference held Nov. 8-10 in Orlando, FL.

Magee, who highlighted many of ConnectWise’s new offerings during a keynote address on Nov. 9, reiterated some of his ideas during the discussion on Nov. 10, which primarily revolved around the company’s initiatives aimed at alleviating burdens and simplifying business operations for managed services providers.

Magee emphasized the transformative power of AI and hyperautomation, urging MSPs to embrace these technologies for future prosperity. He also touched on some news about the company and offered a brief peek at what’s to come. Here are some key points from the discussion:

  • Balancing Speed and Security: AI is a big focus for ConnectWise, and the company had just announced the launch of several AI-powered tools, including its purpose-built AI assistant ConnectWise Sidekick. That said, the company is being mindful of striking the right balance between moving fast on AI and hyperautomation while ensuring security and avoiding potential issues such as “hallucinations” – when a large language model perceives patterns or objects that create outputs that are nonsensical or inaccurate.
  • Relationships with Multiple Vendors: Managed services providers often partner with several vendors, because it’s rare that one distributor can solve every need. ConnectWise is looking to make the process of working with multiple partner companies more frictionless to complement and streamline the challenges MSPs face.
  • Microsoft Collaboration: ConnectWise has a strong relationship with Microsoft, aiming to add value to various Microsoft offerings to make MSPs’ lives easier. This includes tight integration with Intune and ConnectWise RMM, with a focus on reducing the need to jump from tool to tool.
  • Growing and Selling ConnectWise Solutions through Distribution: ConnectWise is working on enabling more of its platforms, technologies, and services to be sold through distribution. The focus is on complementing and streamlining the challenges that MSPs face by having relations with multiple distributors and vendors.
  • Possibility of Strategic Acquisition: Macgee was questioned about the possibility of ConnectWise being acquired by an enterprise like Microsoft. He responded by saying, “I’m just focused on building a great company and operationalizing us for whatever that may be.”

Though he didn’t share any specifics about the future, Magee expressed excitement and motivation for the next five to 10 years. He emphasized his desire to see the MSP community and partners adopt innovative technology, particularly hyperautomation, and realize increased profitability.
