ICYMI: Our Channel News Roundup for the Week of November 2nd

The official arrival of Intel’s Tiger Lake chips, new management tools from Ivanti, a new channel chief for Arctic Wolf, and an unexpected host for this week’s election are a few of the stories we’ve finally scraped up the time to tell you about.

The 2020 hurricane season continues to boggle our minds as the sheer number of named storms broke records. This week saw Hurricane Eta, named after the seventh letter of the Greek alphabet. What’s next, colors? Will a weatherperson say, “”Hurricane Burnt Siena is expected to hit Florida in two days,”” sometime soon?

Tiger Lake launchChip news from Intel. In a virtual launch of a physical chip, Intel rolled out their Tiger Lake processor family, officially known as the 11th Gen Intel Core processors. Thanks to COVID-19, virtual presentations replaced the glitzy Vegas-styled announcement extravaganzas of the past, this time using extended reality, or xR, technology, rather than green screens.

Other product news. Ivanti revved up its Ivanti Unified Endpoint Manager and Ivanti User Workspace Manager products, which include new features for managing Windows, Android, Mac, iOS, and Linux devices.

Cato Networks updated its Cato Cloud to better handle intelligent feed assessments and eliminate false positive reports. The tool now predicts and removes false positives automatically.

The new Avaya Vantage desktop device is an all-in-one meeting device for the home office that doesn’t rely on a laptop. Includes a high-definition camera and wide-band audio with four microphones. Make sure your remote workers get bogged down by meetings just as often as those in the office.

More than 35 partners, including Cisco and Samsung, have joined the new IBM Cloud for Telecommunications with open, hybrid cloud architecture to enhance digital client engagement and more. It leverages Red Hat OpenShift and is in beta now.

It’s not quite a video wall all by itself, but the new Sharp 120-inch (diagonal) 8M-B120C 8K Ultra-HD Professional LCDE display (pictured) packs in 33 million pixels. Optimized LED backlight phosphors and an embedded 70-watt multi-speaker audio system complete the enveloping display environment. Special orders now being taken. Great way to watch the Super Bowl.

Bob SkelleyNon-product vendor news. Arctic Wolf announced the addition of new Senior Vice President of Global Channels Bob Skelley. Part of its 100% channel sales model announced in 2019.

Need papers signed but don’t want to crowd into an office with all parties and a notary and so on? Try the new signNow product from the Pax8 and newly sdigned partner airSlate.

SYNNEX approved separating Concentrix out as a separate company that will also be publicly traded. Stock swap distribution numbers set for November 17.

Sectigo and Green Hills Software announced a global reseller agreement to offer Sectigo’s Icon Labs Embedded Firewall with Green Hills’ INTEGRTIY RTOS.

Navisite acquired Dickinson + Associates, an SAP consulting firm in Chicago.

At Clear 2020, Cherwell Software launched its new Managed Services Provider Partner Program. Enhanced support and certification directly from Cherwell.

This week’s stats ticker:

How many Industrial IoT devices will there be in 2025? According to the Industrial IoT: Future Market Outlook, Technology Analysis & Key Players 2020-2025 report from Juniper Research, 36.8 billion. Overall growth rate is 207% from a starting point of 22 billion devices now. 5G growth will really accelerate IIoT use in factories, along with Low Power Wide Area (LPWA) networks, and push the “”smart factory”” concept to new heights. Despite the billions of hardware devices, over 80% of global IIoT market value will come from software by 2025, reaching $216 billion. Manufacturers are advised to focus on data collection in the most valuable areas to drive efficiency gains.

Voting DragIn case you haven’t had enough election news this week. Think Texas remains the land of cowboy boots and cow patties between oil wells? For a contrarian viewpoint, consider one of the voting sites in Houston this past week. Buddy’s, an LGBTQ bar, was an official polling place with 14 voting booths on the dance floor. To entertain voters in line, drag queen artist Athena Sapphire, 26, roller-skated outside. Other drag queens joined the Joy to the Polls group in dancing and lip-syncing aimed at helping increase voter turnout.

While the nation awaits results from some elections, the new mayor of Rabbit Hash, Kentucky, is Wilbur Beast, a French Bulldog. After a hard-fought battle, Wilbur prevailed over incumbent Mayor Brynneth Pawltro, a rescue Pit Bull. 22,985 votes were cast, raising $13,156 for the Rabbit Hash Historical Society.
