How many times have you misplaced your car keys, your smartphone, and your wallet? If you’re like me, it’s too many times to count. I chalk it up to an unfortunate side-effect of just being too darn busy. There’s no way I’m going to blame my forgetfulness on the fact that I’m old (ish). Whatever the reason, misplaced items are a source of frustration and require endless games of hide-and-seek. When information about the TrackR bravo wound up in my email inbox, I knew it was something that would resonate with lots of busy (and old), and possibly forgetful people like me.
This coin-size device clips on to whatever you want to locate in a hurry—your purse, golf bag, pet, bike, laptop, keys … whatever. Once clipped on, you pair the TrackR bravo device with the companion smartphone app and then assign each item (up to 10) to a unique icon to create a log of all your tracked items. When you need to locate one of these devices, just click on the app and choose the item you’re tracking. The TrackR uses a Bluetooth distance indicator to find the missing item within 100 feet and can ring the bravo tracking device.
TrackR will also track things out of Bluetooth range by using the TrackR Crowd GPS database, which is made up of thousands of other TrackR users. When another user comes nearby a lost item, that user’s phone will anonymously ping the TrackR server to update the item’s owner with new GPS coordinates of where the lost device is located. This enables GPS tracking of multiple items without having to pay a monthly fee.
For items that go missing a lot, you can enable the separation alert feature to sound if tracked items are left behind or forgotten. And as a bonus, the newly designed TrackR app integrates with NEST.
TrackR bravo is iOS and Android compatible, and a single chip costs $29.99. A set of three accessories (pet collar attachment, high-end metal loop, water-proof case) is available for $19.99.
