We’ve seen Universal Electronics create all sorts of different controllers. Now the company is going to deliver home control using something that you’re very familiar with: smartphones and tablets.
UE’s Nevo Portal is a little stand-alone device that connects to your home theater setup, allowing users to browse content or control components using iOS and Android devices. Boasting an easy, fast setup, the Nevo Portable does require two AA batteries. An app is also needed for the setup process and daily use, but the Nevo Portal can connect to your portable of choice via Bluetooth.
Once the setup is completed, the app has an integrated TV guide for browsing and tuning to live TV content. That portable can also be used as a second screen, since it’s easy to toggle between the Nevo Portal and all of your device’s other features.
On the off chance you don’t want to use one of those portables as a controller, the Nevo Portal also doubles as a slick tabletop remote.
UE is making the Nevo Portal available now, via cable operators in the Americas.
“Nevo Portal leverages our extensive knowledge in both IR and RF, and our world renowned device code database to add home theater control to devices that don’t already have it built-in,” says Lou Hughes, senior VP of sales and product management for the Americas at Universal Electronics. “Nevo App and Nevo Portal combine to make a very neat package for cable operators to quickly and easily provide an out-of-box solution for second screen control.”
