Honeywell has announced an application programing interface that allows Honeywell development partners to build software applications that interface with the company’s Wi-Fi thermostats. This includes the custom-color Wi-Fi Smart Thermostat. Current partners include Akucom, Opower, Control4 and Lutron. Honeywell is testing the program with companies in the following ways:
Akucom is a pioneer of Open Automated Demand Response (OpenADR), an SaaS for connecting energy providers to their residential, commercial and industrial customers. Through this partnership, the Akucom platform will link to the Honeywell Total Control Comfort app to alert facility mangers when temperatures are adjusted to cut electric consumption.
Opower, a provider of customer engagement solutions for utility companies, will use the Comfort Control API to integrate its Opower 4 platform with the Honewell suite of Wi-Fi thermostats to connect into utility programs that drive energy efficiency, demand response and customer engagement.
Lutron Electonics, a lighting control company, will use the API to provide facilities with better control of their environment through building light, shading, heating and cooling systems.
Control4, an automation provider, will use the Comfort Control API to allow users to monitor their Honeywell thermostats through Control4 remotes and touch panels or the users smartphone, computer or tablet.
