NComputing Upgrades Its N-Series Firmware

N-series 1.5.0 firmware enables NComputing’s Citrix Ready HDX-verified line of thin clients to support secure mobility.

Desktop virtualization developer NComputing has announced a software and firmware release for its N-series line of thin clients.

NComputing’s N-series is Citrix Ready HDX Verified and employs NComputing’s System on Chip (SoC) technology. With secure mobility features, the N-series software update aims to “maximize resources and productivity for IT and end-users with a number of new performance enhancements,” according to an NComputing statement submitted to ChannelPro-SMB.

“The new security and features to support mobility enable users and IT administrators to implement mobile computing more easily with streamlined management, and without forgoing computing power or cost,” says NComputing CEO Raj Dhingra.

N-series thin clients, which include the N500, N500w, and N400, are designed to replace PCs in Citrix deployments. The units are meant to “fulfill the need for modern, mobile computing environments,” according to NComputing.

“Our ongoing relationship with NComputing gives our mutual customers the ability to easily expand their virtual desktop deployments to enable mobile work styles for their users,” says Aimee Catalano, Citrix’s vice president of alliance marketing. “The combination of Citrix XenDesktop with HDX and NComputing’s Citrix Ready HDX Verified N-series thin clients delivers both a high-performance and low-cost thin client solution and a high-definition HDX experience to end users.”

1.5.0 Firmware Features

Features of the new N-series 1.5.0 firmware include:

  • Mobility Support with Security—Secure wireless technology with WPA-Enterprise, WPA2-Enterprise, and 802.1x authentication protocols over LAN and wireless LAN, hidden SSID support, and more.
  • Firmware Updating System—Robust firmware updating system, vSpace Management Center 3.3.1, enables IT to centrally manage and update N-series firmware.
  • Support of Citrix Technologies—The 1.5.0 N-series firmware includes the newest Citrix Receiver for Linux release (version 12.5.2). The new N-series firmware also introduces official support for XenApp 6.5 Feature Pack 2 and VDI-in-a-Box 5.2.

The new release of N-series and vSpace Management Center software is available immediately to new customers or as an upgrade for existing customers with membership in the NComputing SnS program.
