New Panasonic Tough Tablet Line Powered by Android

The Toughpad family will be available in 10″ and 7″, with enterprise-class security, and deliver mission-critical computing to highly mobile markets.

Panasonic will soon offer a Toughpad family of Android tablets, including a 10″ and a 7″ device. The devices target mission-critical and highly mobile workers and are supplemented by an enterprise-focused app store, peripherals, developer tools, deployment support, and more.

The first available device will be the 10″ Toughpad A1, ideal for mobile outdoor workers in markets like aviation, construction, field sales, and the public sectors. The 7″ Toughpad B1 is similar, but is geared towards markets where screen real estate is not as critical, and where device mobility and portability are a higher priority.

The new Toughpad family comes with enterprise-class security as well. The Toughpad A1 offers hardware and software encryption, enhanced VPN, dual factor authentication, trusted boot and device management. The Toughpad A1 will be compliant with FIPS 140-2 for federal government use, and HIPAA compliant for healthcare environments. The Toughpad’s mobile device management capabilities are customizable and low level for IT administrators. Applications can be distributed in a one-to-many environment.

The Toughpad A1 has a high brightness 10.1″ XGA capacitive, multi-touch, daylight-viewable screen. It also offers a stylus and active digitizer, as well as signature capture and handwriting recognition functionalities. Integrated cameras, a serviceable battery, and peripheral connectivity are also featured on the A1.

The Toughpad has access to all Android Market applications, as well as the Business AppPortal, which offers vertical market apps, as well as business efficiency apps. IT managers and developers can store, download, and test applications for use on their Toughpad devices. Panasonic will offer private application stores within the Business AppPortal, which businesses can customize to their own needs.

The Toughpad A1 will be available through Panasonic resellers in the Spring of 2012, starting at $1299. The Toughpad B1 will be released later in 2012. More information on the Toughpad tablets can be found at http://www.PanasonicToughpad.com
