Citrix Enters SaaS-Based IT Management with GoToManage

The company’s acquisition of Paglo provides a platform for IT professionals to monitor, control, and support the IT infrastructure of their SMB clients.

Santa Barbara, Calif.-based Citrix Online, a division of Citrix Systems Inc., announced that it is entering the IT Management sector with the launch of GoToManage, an integrated Web-based platform for monitoring, controlling, and supporting attended or unattended IT infrastructure anywhere.

The launch of the new GoToManage service enables Citrix Online to meet demand from the large emerging SaaS-based IT management market, estimated by leading analyst firm Forrester Research to reach $4 billion in 2013 (How Big Is SaaS In IT Management Software?, November 2008). GoToManage will provide SMBs and managed service providers (MSPs) an alternative to premise-based software. GoToManage can be purchased individually today or bundled with its remote support services later this year.

GoToManage is based on the service offering from Paglo Labs Inc., a Menlo Park, Calif., provider of Software as a Service (SaaS)-based IT search and management services acquired by Citrix Systems early in 2010 (see A New Take on the Managed Services Platform: Paglo). GoToManage monitors, controls, and supports attended or unattended IT infrastructure by creating an IT “system of record.” That is, it provids businesses with the ability to discover and identify all network devices, monitor servers and applications in real-time, manage network usage, and track configuration changes. GoToManage is simple to deploy, can be accessed from anywhere, and requires no costly server infrastructure, according to Citrix.

“The acquisition of Paglo is an ideal complement to Citrix Online, allowing it to move decisively into an adjacent market to SaaS-based remote support,” says Robert Mahowald, director of IDC’s SaaS and cloud services practice. “GoToManage is a compelling offering with significant global appeal, considering the strength of the Citrix brand and the focus on simplicity, which is key for SaaS adoption.”

Citrix Online debuted 10 years ago as a purpose-built, Web-based remote support offering. Last year it added GoToAssist Express, a support solution for individual professionals and small businesses. According to the IDC report Worldwide Clientless Remote Support Software 2009-2013 Forecast and Analysis from December† 2009, Citrix Online was the remote-support market leader in 2008 with a 34.7 percent worldwide share via its GoToAssist services.

According to Brian de Haaff, co-founder and CEO of Paglo, and now senior product director, IT Services for Citrix Online: “We founded Paglo two years ago to deliver a more complete and easier-to-use IT management platform. We succeeded by delivering the only SaaS platform that allows IT professionals to automatically discover all of their IT data and search, analyze, and visualize it. When you combine that functionality with…GoToAssist remote support service, IT service providers now have the single platform they need with GoToManage to monitor and control everything IT.”

Paglo’s founders and the entire staff are now Citrix Online employees.
