SolarWinds MSP Buys SpamExperts

The acquisition positions the managed services software maker to add a more robust threat intelligence engine, mobile-friendly interface, and multilingual code base to its MSP Mail security, archiving, and continuity solution.

Managed services software maker SolarWinds MSP has acquired security and archiving vendor SpamExperts B.V. Terms of the transaction, which will officially close August 25th, have not been disclosed.

Launched in 2005 and headquartered in Amsterdam, with a second office in Bucharest, Romania, SpamExperts makes anti-spam and email archiving solutions that users can host either in the cloud or on local hardware. The company currently protects over 10 million domains in more than 85 countries.

SolarWinds MSP, which is based in Durham, N.C., plans to embed SpamExperts’ solutions in its MSP Mail product within the next 30 days. MSP Mail already includes anti-spam protection, as well as email archiving and email continuity functionality designed to keep email services available when either on-premises or hosted email systems are inaccessible. The SpamExperts solution, however, features a more robust threat intelligence engine backed by machine learning and heuristic analysis technology that detects and blocks phishing and ransomware attacks in addition to spam.

The system also offers support for 16 languages, an intuitive interface that adjusts automatically for use on either PCs and laptops or handheld devices, and white-labeling functionality.

“When we look at ways to build an even better MSP solution platform, we think first about what that means to our customers and their unique business objectives,” said John Pagliuca, general manager of SolarWinds MSP, in prepared remarks. “The acquisition of SpamExperts will help MSPs deliver even more secure and robust mail protection and management, which is a foundational part of a successful IT service provider’s business. We’re excited to have the opportunity to leverage the global expertise of this proven SaaS company, whose focus on superior customer satisfaction and true market disruption aligns perfectly with ours.”

SolarWinds MSP is buying SpamExperts at a time of rising security spending, fueled by proliferating ransomware attacks and increased awareness of security threats among business decision-makers. Gartner expects global security outlays to rise seven percent this year to $86.4 billion.

Other managed services software vendors are making security a point of emphasis in response to that trend. Avast Software‘s AVG Business unit, for example,†released a new edition of its Managed Workplace RMM solution last month equipped with site assessment functionality in connection with a larger ongoing effort to turn security functionality into a source of a competitive differentiation.
