Microsoft Rolls Out Azure Security Center for IoT

Azure Security Center for IoT protects end-to-end IoT deployments by identifying and responding to emerging threats, as well as finds configuration issues before attackers can exploit them.

Microsoft has announced the general availability of Azure Security Center for IoT, intended to help organizations protect IoT and hybrid cloud workloads against evolving cybersecurity attacks. Azure Security Center for IoT delivers unified visibility and control, adaptive threat prevention, and intelligent threat detection and response across workloads running on edge, on-premises, in Azure, and in other clouds.

While IDC projects that the IoT market will surpass the $1 trillion mark in 2022, the No. 1 one worry for organizations considering IoT projects is security, according to Bain & Company, cauing many companies to slow or pause IoT rollouts.

Since IoT installations stretch from the smallest sensor though the network to the cloud, piecemeal security products leave too many gaps. Azure Security Center for IoT from Microsoft offers security coverage from end-to-end, from sensor to cloud, for both Microsoft and third-party devices.

Microsoft secure-by-design IoT services provide the foundation for Azure Security Center for IoT to offer threat protection and security posture management. Leveraging the Azure IoT Hub, organizations using Azure Security Center for IoT can prevent, detect, and help remediate potential attacks against every link in the IoT project chain. Threats to device configurations, cloud services, and the admin account can be rejected.

Azure Security Center creates ranked lists of possible misconfigurations and insecure settings for IoT devices. Drawing from the threat intelligence developed by Microsoft based on the 6 trillion signals collected every day, Azure Security Center creates a ranked list of threats to help IoT admins remediate problems before they get out of hand. Customers can port their data into security information and event management (SIEM) applications such as Azure Sentinel.

Earlier this month, on July 22, the Microsoft Azure Security Center for IoT released an overview with links to articles on Architecture, Service Prerequisites, Getting Started, and more. If you’re new to Microsoft Azure, Microsoft offers a free Azure account including a $200 credit to explore Azure services during your first month of membership.
