From Corporate IT to Community Impact: GO Technology Group’s John Marta Shares His Broader Vision for IT Support

After a successful enterprise career, Marta founded GO Technology Group to deliver approachable, community-focused IT support for organizations that need it most.

When John Marta stepped away from his role as an IT director at Mitsubishi Electric, it wasn’t a move away from leadership. Rather, it was a move toward a broader impact. With years of enterprise IT experience and a passion for service, Marta launched his MSP GO Technology Group to bring responsive, relationship-driven IT support to a wider range of organizations.

“I saw an opportunity to help more people — schools, local governments, small businesses — with the same level of strategy and care I was providing in the corporate world,” Marta said.

Today, GO Technology Group supports clients across the Chicagoland area, from school districts and municipalities to park districts and professional service firms. The firm blends enterprise-grade strategy with hands-on support, offering services designed to meet the needs of organizations that often lack full in-house IT teams.

A Foundation in Teaching and Technology

Before rising through the ranks of corporate IT, Marta worked as a college test prep instructor and technical trainer. That early experience in education still shapes how he leads today.

“Technology is just a tool. What matters most is how it supports people,” he explained. “We listen to our clients, understand their goals, and explain things without technical jargon.”

His dual background in education and engineering has influenced everything from client relationships to team development. At GO Technology Group, Marta has built a culture where continuing education is valued. Engineers are trained with both technical and communication skills in mind.

Proactive by Design

One of GO Technology Group’s key differentiators is its proactive approach to IT. With guaranteed response times under 15 minutes and average issue resolution within an hour, speed is a priority, but not the whole story.

“It’s not just about being fast. It’s about anticipating problems before they happen,” said Marta. “That’s where experience matters.”

GO Technology Group’s team draws on deep expertise, including advanced certifications in Microsoft, Cisco, CompTIA, and other platforms. The company’s proactive tools and methodologies allow employees to address underlying risks and strengthen clients’ systems before vulnerabilities can cause disruption.

Cybersecurity and the Human Element

In today’s environment, Marta sees cybersecurity as both a technical and a human challenge. Many of the organizations GO Technology Group supports don’t have the resources for a dedicated security team. This makes user education critical.

GO Technology Group provides ongoing training, runs phishing simulations, and hosts community presentations to raise awareness around cyber threats. As Marta puts it, “People are often the weakest link, but they can be your strongest defense if they’re educated and supported.”

A Values-driven Company with Enterprise Roots

Marta, the first American-born child of Romanian immigrants, credits his upbringing with his drive to serve and succeed.

“My parents taught me to work hard, stay humble, and always look for ways to help others,” he said.
He carried those lessons through a career supporting large, cross-functional IT teams and earning a master’s degree in information technology.

That same energy now powers GO Technology Group’s service to dozens of organizations that rely on its systems every day.

Advice for the Channel: Serve First, Simplify Often

To fellow MSPs and IT leaders, Marta offers simple advice: Keep learning, build real relationships, and explain things clearly.

“If you can’t explain it simply, you don’t understand it well enough,” he said, echoing his favorite quote from physicist Richard Feynman.

Great IT support isn’t about selling the most services or using the most buzzwords. It’s about building trust, staying responsive, and helping clients feel confident in their technology.

And in Marta’s case, it’s also about reaching more people than ever before.

  • Founded: 2012
  • Locations: Chicago and Oak Brook, IL
  • Website: gochicagoit.com
  • Company Focus: Managed IT services, cybersecurity, IT outsourcing, IT consulting, VoIP services, cloud services, education technology (edtech), and MDM
  • Favorite Book: Atmamun by Kapil Gupta and A Series of Fortunate Events by Sean Carroll. One is philosophical, the other scientific. Both offer a different lens on how we think, evolve, and operate.
  • Favorite Part of the Job: Connecting with potential new clients and digging into their IT environments. The opportunity to listen, assess, and ultimately make things better energizes me.
  • Least Favorite Part of the Job: There are frustrating things now and then, but I’ve learned to shift my mindset quickly. When those moments pop up, I remind myself, “This too shall pass.” That perspective keeps me moving forward.
