The NFL preseason starts this week, and for the first time since the year 2000, something’s missing: Tom Brady. Officially, he retired on February 1st. Unofficially, he’s retired before and risen again like gas station sushi. But he’ll be back on Sunday sports TV before long. His $375 million dollar contract with Fox NFL’s broadcast team will put him in the announcer’s booth starting in the fall of 2024.

SentinelOne Singularity RangerNews from Black Hat and elsewhere in security-land. Ransomware has become a modern plague of locusts, so Cisco enhanced its extended detection and response (XDR) tools, including ways to automatically recover from a ransomware attack, integrations with data backup and recovery products, and more.

This week’s stats ticker:

The new Privileged Access Management Survey: Deployment Amid Economic Uncertainty from Keeper Security checked in with 400 global security execs and found they consider PAM critical but cost and complexity barriers remain high. 56% tried to deploy a PAM solution but didn’t fully implement it, and 92% named overly complex products as the main reason. Another 58% of IT teams didn’t even attempt an install because of the high cost of the traditional platforms. Of those who have, 91% of IT leaders say PAM gave them more control and decreased the risk of insider and external breaches. Another 62% reported the downturn in economic conditions would likely make them scale back their current PAM platform. Requests include a PAM product that’s easier to manage and maintain (70%), easier to integrate with existing security stacks (55%), and lower cost or not paying for features the organization doesn’t need (44%).

Addigy’s Corporate IT in Focus report found global organizations are falling behind in support of cross-border compliance regulations. Only 42% say they’re only “somewhat” ready, meaning far more than half are further behind than that. GDPR has been around long enough that 88% of all 250 corporate IT decision maker respondents have compliance with those rules as a focus of their compliance policies. The good news is that 91% report they have a cybersecurity insurance policy. Of those who don’t, 90% promise they plan to get one.

Robot AnchorRobot anchor. In all the jokes about our “robot overlords” taking over, we never heard the part about those same robot overlords, in the guise of attractive female news anchors, delivering that news to us. But those anchors are already on TV in parts of India, where the need to broadcast in multiple languages makes automation necessary.

The stations promise the “newsbots” only read text and make no editorial decisions. Or were they ordered to say that?
