Kaseya Acquires Automated Pen Testing Vendor Vonahi Security

Announced during the vendor’s Kaseya Connect Global event today, the deal aims to turn penetration testing from a costly, time-consuming process few MSPs can afford to do more than annually into a regularly performed part of sound cyber hygiene.

Kaseya has acquired penetration testing vendor Vonahi Security.

Terms of the deal, which was disclosed during Kaseya’s Connect Global conference in Las Vegas today, were not disclosed.

Vonahi Security’s vPenTest solution will assist MSPs with what has become a pressing need at a time when regulatory mandates increasingly compel businesses to either employ continuous vulnerability management or perform an annual penetration test.

“This is becoming more and more a requirement,” said Kaseya CEO Fred Voccola during a keynote presentation this morning.

Few MSPs have the skill to conduct pen tests themselves, however, and third-party vendors typically charge tens of thousands of dollars to assist them.

“Most MSPs really don’t do pen testing unless they have to,” said Voccola today in a conversation with ChannelPro. “They want to do it, but they can’t because it’s too expensive.”

Vonahi’s solution is designed to run heavily automated pen tests at affordable rates. A one-year subscription, which includes unlimited on-demand tests, costs about as much as a single manual test typically does, the company says, allowing MSPs who currently test clients annually if they test at all to do it regularly.

“The product is very inexpensive and it’s incredibly thorough,” Voccola says. “It allows you to do network pen testing once a day, once a week, once a month, once a quarter, whenever you want.”

MSPs practicing “good cyber hygiene,” he adds, should perform tests far more than once a year. “A lot of bad things can happen in 364 days,” he observes.

In keeping with what Voccola calls standard practice after an acquisition, Kaseya has lowered the Vonahi solution’s price by 10% and upped the number of endpoints covered by existing subscriptions by 15% at no extra charge. Members of the vendor’s Global Partner Program are also immediately eligible for a free not-for-resale Vonahi license.

Vonahi was one of three finalists in ConnectWise’s latest PitchIT Accelerator Program, an annual competition for startup makers of software for MSPs.

Global spending on penetration testing will grow at a 13.1% CAGR $5.3 billion in 2031, according to Allied Market Research.

Kaseya also announced the acquisition of sales presentation automation audIT at the Connect Global conference today, along with the launch of a cyberinsurance program designed to get MSPs who use Kaseya’s security stack and their clients $1.5 million of guaranteed coverage in minutes without completing questionnaires.
