ICYMI: Our Channel News Roundup for the Week of November 29th

Announcements a-plenty from AWS re:Invent, two new solutions from NinjaOne, a new head of partner communities for TD SYNNEX, and surprising proof that karaoke can be dangerous to your health are all among the stories we’re just now telling you about.

Does anyone have the number for Mother Nature’s complaints department, Weather Division? Maybe an email address? Sure, 2020 and 2021 have been a little bonkers, but this is going too far: There are blizzard warnings forecasting up to a foot of snow and wind gusts of 100 MPH for … Hawaii. Yes, Hawaii. Enough already.

AWS Partner PathsAWS re:Invent news. Starting January 28, you can join one of four new AWS Partner Paths. Choose from the Software, Hardware, Services, Training, or Distribution Paths and unlock funding goodies, access enablement resources, and get badges to certify your expertise. The Distribution Path is invitation only.

The upgraded Amazon Inspector vulnerability management solution includes a range of new features, including automated scanning, support for container-based workloads, integration with AWS Security Hub, and more.

Also new, the AWS Marketplace for Containers Anywhere lets you find and deploy third-party Kubernetes apps from AWS Marketplace on any Kubernetes cluster. Need them on-premises for latency or compliance? No problem.

Amazon CloudWatch added some interesting new features, such as insights to help you follow a user through each page of your app and save the Real-User Monitoring data for analysis.

AWS Compute Optimizer added a dashboard to find new savings and performance options, identify over-provisioned resources, and estimate bottleneck risk.

If you’ve been waiting for a storage tier for long-term retention of Amazon Elastic Block Store snapshots of your EBS volumes, check out Amazon EBS Snapshots Archive.

Carrier, Siemens, and Accenture are among the early adopters of the new Amazon AWS IoT TwinMaker for creating digital twins of real-world systems to better monitor efficiency and more. But digital twins can be tough, even for advanced teams. This should help.

Open-source edge runtime and cloud service AWS Greengrass 2.0 came out in 2020. Now you can securely manage it with AWS Systems Manager (SSM).

AWS partner news. Zerto announced that its Zerto In-Cloud for AWS will be available in the AWS Marketplace starting early next year. The DR software now includes automated failover testing, application protection, and stateless management.

To add some new cloud security to AWS, McAfee Enterprise and FireEye announced an integration with Amazon Inspector offering FireEye Helix behavior analysis, machine learning-based Extended Detection & Response (XDR) capabilities, and more.

XM Cyber now integrates with the latest version of Amazon Inspector as well, to help pinpoint areas of potential risk and critical software vulnerabilities.

Ninja Data ProtectionOther product news. NinjaOne announced that its new Ninja Data Protection has added image backup. In open beta now with general availability expected January 31. Also new from Ninja: Ninja Protect, which combines NinjaOne’s core RMM platform with endpoint security software from Bitdefender.

Ooma Office has a call list of new and advanced features like call analytics, expanded call management, a Google Chrome extension, and more.

Nintex wove Nintex AssureSign, its e-signature capability, into its cloud automation app, Workflow Cloud, and its document automation app, Drawloop DocGen for Salesforce.

Wasabi Technologies and Nutanix tightened their working arrangements to allow customers to use Nutanix Files to scale unstructured datasets on demand and get analytics and visibility across their data.

IGI Cybersecurity introduced CISO Team-as-a-Service. Services are based on customer needs and may include risk assessments, vulnerability scanning, penetration testing, and more.

Sammy KinlawNon-product vendor news. TD SYNNEX named Sammy Kinlaw (pictured) SVP of customer communities, North America.

Also at TD SYNNEX, Adam Rutstein has joined as director of global corporate responsibility, in charge of the company’s Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) program.

Bret Taylor was promoted to vice chair of the board and co-CEO of Salesforce. Laura Alber and Oscar Munoz were appointed to the board of directors.

SolarWinds rolled out the red carpet for its new vice president of worldwide partner sales, Jeff McCullough.

The new group vice president of global alliances and channels at New Relic is Adobe veteran Riya Shanmugam.

Multiple red carpets unfurled at the door of ThycoticCentrify to welcome Chief Legal Officer Suzanne Tom, Senior Vice President of Product Management Jon Kuhn, Vice President of Strategy and Corporate Development Ram Venkatachalam, and Vice President of Business Operations and Chief of Staff Josh DeLong. Oh, yeah, Pascal Van Dooren joined the board of directors.

Customer experience player SmileBack integrated with ConnectWise years ago, but now ConnectWise has acquired SmileBack.

Users of Ingram Micro’s cloud marketplace have a new integrated PSA option: Datto’s Autotask PSA.

The Cisco Partner Program added two new roles: Developer and Advisor. These slide into the existing Select, Premier, and Gold tiers.

Hello to the new Illumio Technology Alliance Partner Program to accelerate zero-trust security adoption.

This week’s stats ticker:

Gartner’s “”Forecast Analysis: Artificial Intelligence Software, Worldwide,”” forecasts a 21.3% increase in AI software revenue in 2022 for a total of $65.5 billion. The market continues to pick up speed, yet Gartner found organizations experiment with AI but don’t often weave it into their standard operations. The “”stabilization stage”” of AI won’t happen until 2025 for half of worldwide organizations. The top five use case categories in 2022 will be knowledge management, virtual assistants, autonomous vehicles, digital workplace, and outsourced data. 48% of CIOs said they have already deployed or plan to deploy AI and machine learning technologies within the next 12 months.

Karaoke EmergencySinging your lungs out. Singing karaoke with friends usually leads to embarrassment, shared videos used for friendly blackmail, and more drinking to forget your own performance. We say “”more”” because how many volunteer for karaoke when sober? This time, however, karaoke led to a collapsed lung and a hospital visit.

Wang Zhe strained so hard to reach some high notes that air sacks in his right lung burst, causing air pockets to form in his chest cavity. It hurt during the birthday party for his friend, so he stopped singing. The next day it was much more painful, and his family rushed him to the Changsha Central Hospital.

He’s recovered fully, but there’s no news if he plans to choose a lower-pitched song for his next karaoke session. Maybe he should enter the lip-synching competition instead.
