Datto RMM Gains Out-of-Band Endpoint Management Through New Intel Integration

A collaboratively developed connection between Datto’s remote monitoring and management system and Intel Endpoint Management Assistant lets MSPs take control of devices that are powered off or unresponsive.

Datto and Intel have introduced an integration designed to help MSPs administer Intel vPro-based endpoints that are “out of band.”

The new functionality, which is available now, lets users of the Datto RMM remote monitoring and management solution take control of devices that are powered off or unresponsive using Intel Endpoint Management Assistant (EMA). The integration lets technicians employ a unique, device-specific link into Intel EMA to remotely turn devices on, boot them to BIOS, recycle their power, or apply patches and diagnose problems during remote keyboard-video-mouse (KVM) sessions. Those are capabilities new to Datto RMM, according to Ian van Reenen, Datto’s vice president of software engineering for RMM.

“Up until now, MSPs have been unable to access devices that are offline or turned off. It is, however, critical for MSPs to have full, remote access to the devices they are responsible for maintaining. This means remote management capabilities anywhere at any time,” said van Reenen in prepared remarks. “At Datto, we are continuously advancing our technology to empower our MSP partners with the innovative products required to drive their business forward. This integration with Intel enables our MSP partners to extend their capabilities and better serve their customers.”†

Launched last November, Intel EMA is a remote support tool for Intel vPro devices equipped with Intel Active Management Technology. Integrating it with Datto RMM lets MSPs build the system into administrative workflows executed through the core management tool their technicians rely on.

From Intel’s perspective, collaborating with Datto both arms that vendor’s MSP partners to support their customers more effectively and gives those MSPs an additional reason to recommend vPro-enabled products to their customers.

“Datto understands that managed service providers need first class hardware that is built for business, leading with Intel vPro platforms,” said Carla Rodriguez, Intel’s senior director of ecosystem partner enablement for business client platforms, in a press statement. “This partnership with Datto brings together the right technologies on this RMM integration to deliver remote management capabilities to many of its customers. We look forward to continued collaborations with Datto.”†

Other RMM and IT management software makers with Intel vPro integrations include ConnectWise, Continuum (which was acquired by ConnectWise last October), Kaseya, and Spiceworks.

This is the second collaboration between Datto and Intel, following an earlier one in which Datto built advanced Intel processors into its SIRIS 4 BDR appliance.
