Asetek Plays It ‘Cool’ with Latest Tech Release

The cooling innovator says its new slim-form liquid cooling technology for laptops and all-in-one PCs is “much more powerful hardware than air cooling.”

Liquid cooling innovator Asetek Inc. caught the attention of system builders this month with the release of a new slim form factor liquid cooling technology for extreme performance and workstation-grade laptops and all-in-one PCs.

Asetek Plays It 'Cool' with Latest Tech Release Slim-form liquid cooling enables laptops and all-in-on PC designs to provide mobile products with the highest levels of performance. According to Asetek, the trend is on the upswing, as PC users require greater capabilities and greater mobility.

“We see a growing need for higher performance personal computers, driven by ever more powerful modeling software for engineering, scientific and financial work, and for content creation and gaming,” says Asetek founder and CEO André S. Eriksen. “We also see high-performance hardware expanding to more portable, sleeker devices.”

The fundamental challenge in cooling desktop replacement laptops and all-in-one PCs is the lack of space for a proper thermal solution. Many previous attempts at liquid cooling laptops have offered no performance improvement over traditional heat-pipe based heat sinks.

That has changed with Asetek’s new technology, according to Ole Madsen, Asetek’s vice president of engineering. “Our patent protected technology allows better utilization of the thermal modules used to cool the CPU and GPUs,” he says. “That, along with our optimized coldplate technology, enables the use of much more powerful hardware than air cooling could ever allow.”
