For a limited time, the software company’s upgrade tool is offered by special deal to channel pros that have purchased a minimum of $950 for a license valid for up to 1,000 upgrades.
Connectivity innovator Laplink Software Inc. announced to the channel this week a new nearly free offering to SMBs of its PCmover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant.
According to the developer, the software is now available for a limited time only for less than $1 per license. In order to obtain the special pricing deal, the minimum purchase is $950 for a license valid for up to 1,000 upgrades.
“Microsoft recently disclosed that 75 percent of businesses are still running Windows XP,” Laplink Software states in press release submitted to Channel Pro-SMB. “But these users have a problem — Microsoft does not support upgrading from XP to Windows 7.”
Specifically, out of the 66 Windows 7 upgrade scenarios outlined by Microsoft, only 14 are supported by Windows 7 as an in-place upgrade. Laplink’s software aims to solve this problem for VARs working to take advantage of the ongoing Win 7 refresh.
†”We offer the fastest and easiest method to upgrade existing hardware from XP to Windows 7,” says Laplink CEO Thomas Koll. “And now we are removing any cost barrier.”
With PCmover, the upgrade process does not require external media. No programs need to be reinstalled after the upgrade and the PC’s “personality” remains intact.
“Windows XP will not be supported indefinitely by Microsoft,” Koll adds. “Businesses will need to deploy Windows 7 and Laplink has a much-needed solution.”
The Upgrade Assistant functionality is also part of PCmover Enterprise, which enables PC-to-PC migration and operating system independent restore of an image or hard drive.
