D&H Distributing has signed a distribution agreement with Sony Ericsson to carry a variety of mobile phones. The agreement includes the new Xperia X8 smartphone, plus the Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro smartphones, all powered by the Android OS.†
The agreement also covers the Aspen and Vivaz Pro smartphones, and should include additional Sony Ericsson models to be introduced in 2011. †
The new relationship helps expand D&H’s growing line-up of Android-based products. According to co-president, Dan Schwab, D&H aims to equip VARs with the mobility products needed in 2011.
Indeed, Android has grown into a compelling mobile OS, having recently hit an impressive milestone of 300,000 smartphone activations per day, according to Google’s Andy Rubin. D&H Distributing says the open source platform is “able to accommodate a range of mobile formats, including both smartphones and tablets, letting individuals or even entire offices take advantage of a more comprehensive suite of products running on the same basic OS.”
“We’re excited to work with Sony Ericsson in an effort to help proliferate the Android OS, which adds new capabilities and a healthy diversity to the market that can help drive the category,” says Rob Eby, vice president of purchasing at D&H.† “The Xperia Android smartphones represent a robust and versatile line-up for this platform. †The more we support the development of different and emerging Android devices, the more we contribute to the ongoing maturity of the mobile space.”
