Samsung Rolls Out CAC for Government Customers

The common access card solution meets the latest Federal protocols without additional piece of external hardware.

Samsung Electronics America Inc. (a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corp.) introduced a new common access card (CAC) solution this month, aimed at providing higher levels of security for sensitive government information.

The CAC solution is embedded into the firmware of a multifunction printer (MFP) as a mean of providing increased security compared to other CAC options that require an external piece of hardware between the MFP and network. The solution enables LDAP authentication to bring in the users’ address book.

Using the Samsung CAC solution, an organization can restrict unauthorized users from sending sensitive documents via MFPs. Required by the Homeland Security Presidential Directive HSPD-12, the solution is approved by the U.S. Department of Defense and meets or exceeds all necessary security protocols, including Common Criteria Certification.

“Samsung’s printer solutions are developed in direct response to our customers needs,” says Ken Colby, director of printer marketing at Samsung. “We ensure that security features are top priority when providing MFPs for our government customers.”

Samsung’s CAC solution is available in a selection of Samsung’s multi-function printers geared toward government organizations, including the SCX-5635FN, SCX-5835FN, SCX-6545N, SCX-6555N, CLX-6250FX and CLX-8540ND.

The CAC solution, including the SCM SCR3310 card reader, can be embedded in these models for an MSRP of $299.99 with a one-year warranty.
