Tandberg Data Ships LTO-4 HH Fiber Channel Drives
Company says its LTO-4 half-height 4 Gb fiber channel enhances 2U and 4U libraries performance for data-intense SMBs.
Tandberg Data, a supplier of data protection solutions, has announced the general availability of LTO-4 half-height fiber channel drives within its StorageLibrary line of products.
Tanberg Data says the LT0-4 doubles drive density, with 4 Gb fiber channel connectivity. With performance of the libraries reaching up to 10.4 TB per hour in a 12 U library, the Tandberg Data StorageLibrary family reaches enterprise capabilities in a product suitable for SMBs.
“Existing customers can extend the lifespan of their StorageLibrary by easily upgrading to the latest LTO generation, saving customers time and money,” says Simon Anderson, Tanberg Data’s business unit manager for tape automation, tape drives, and media. “Even in an economic downturn, data continues to grow, and tape is an ideal solution for customers wishing to lower their storage costs.”
Anderson says the worldwide tape automation market was estimated at $1.2 billion in 2009. It also estimates that fiber channel automation accounts for approximately 20 percent of that market.
Developed specifically for data-intense SMBs, the StorageLibrary T24, with two LTO-4 HH drive and two 12-cartridge magazines, delivers native transfer speeds of 864 GB per hour and a total native capacity of 19.2 TB in a compact, 2U rackmount enclosure.
The library enables existing StorageLibrary T24 users with legacy LTO drives to easily swap out their prior-generation LTO drives and install new LTO-4 drives with the library still in its rack. This feature extends users’ hardware investment and dramatically reduces upgrade costs while immediately achieving new levels of capacity and speed with LTO-4 technology.
