WD Ships 640GB Notebook Hard Drives
WD Scorpio Blue 640GB hard drives are designed for mainstream notebook computers and use 320GB-per-platter technology.
Western Digital (WD) has commenced volume shipments of its 9.5 mm high, 2.5-inch notebook hard drive with 640GB capacity.
The WD Scorpio Blue 640 GB hard drives utilize 320GB-per-platter technology, and they are designed for mainstream notebook computers.
A WD press release calls the Scorpio Blue 640GB “the highest capacity 2.5-inch hard drive available in the industry-standard 9.5 mm, 2-disk form factor.”
Compared to previous generation WD Scorpio Blue drives, the new 640GB drive has a 30 percent reduction in overall power.
Features of the WD Scorpio Blue include:
- WhisperDrive–Combines seeking algorithms to produce a quiet 2.5-inch drive.
- ShockGuard–Combines firmware and hardware advancements to meet shock tolerance specifications required for mobile and notebook applications.
- IntelliSeek–Calculates optimum seek speeds to lower power consumption, noise and vibration. A video demonstration is available online.
WD Scorpio Blue 640GB (model WD6400BEVT) hard drives are shipping now through select distributors and resellers. Manufacturer’s suggested retail prices for the WD Scorpio Blue 640GB is $149.
