Latest Version of BalancePoint 3.0 Now Available
Developer Akorri announces new line of improvements to its flagship product.
Akorri, a virtual infrastructure and capacity management provider for the dynamic data center, has announced the availability of its BalancePoint 3.0 product.
BalancePoint is a virtual infrastructure management software product. It enables IT organizations to optimize virtual and physical server and storage infrastructure resources in order to reduce space and costs.
Features
Over its previous versions, BalancePoint 3.0 improves its virtual machine and storage analysis, broadens interoperability, and upgrades the user interface. New features include:
- Troubleshooting Analysis– CPU bottlenecks are identifiable and resolved by comparing guest O/S perspective with actual VM usage.
- SAN Switch Analysis– SAN switch fabric bottlenecks in infrastructure can be found and resolved with Brocade and Cisco SAN switches.
- VM Performance Index– A physical-to-virtual migration metric for performance baselining and tracking, enabling optimal sizing of each VM for its application.
- Virtual Resource Entitlement Analysis– Identifies configuration and capacity issues, helping to avoid over- or under-allocating critical resources.
- Microsoft and VMware Cluster Support– Maximizes cluster level management, optimization, and planning with visibility across servers and storage as well as analysis of both physical and virtual resource clustering.
- VMware vSphere 4 Support– Plugs into vCenter Server for deep end-to-end visibility.
- 3PAR InServ Series Support– Now part of BalancePoint’s broad storage interoperability, including Dell EqualLogic, EMC, HDS, HP, IBM, and NetApp.
BalancePoint in Action
According to Akorri, as companies advance through the stages of server virtualization adoption, they need an infrastructure-wide analytical systems management “that provides visibility and control to troubleshoot and assure performance, plan server and storage capacity, and manage service levels.
Cozen O’Connor, a law firm delivering legal services in 23 cities and two continents, is one such company. Amy Freese, director of information services for the firm, says BalancePoint has given the company confidence. “We can provide optimal IT performance and service as we continue with our efforts to virtualize,” she says.
Merkle Inc., one of the nation’s largest database marketing agencies, also relies on Akorri BalancePoint. Atul Gandhi, senior director, Enterprise Technology Group, Merkle Inc., credits the software for sparing the agency “significant time by identifying the root cause of server and storage problems.”
BalancePointPoint 3.0 provides deep statistics for the HP EVA platform and Cisco SAN switch support, Gandhi adds. These stats enable his company to “quickly resolve bottlenecks, contention or latency issues, and enable better performance from our data center.”
