New Antimicrobial Mobile Solutions for Healthcare from Socket Mobile
Handheld computer, PDAs, barcode scanners, and other devices help keep bacteria and microbes in check.
Socket Mobile, Inc., a Newark, Calif.-based provider of mobile productivity solutions, has introduced its first antimicrobial suite of healthcare products for medical mobility. These include the company’s handheld computer, the Socket SoMo(r) 650Rx; its line of barcode scanners, including the Socket Bluetooth Cordless Hand Scanners CHS 7NRx and CHS 7XRx; and the plug-in CompactFlash Scan Card 5XRx.
The products are encased in plastics made with antimicrobial materials, which are designed to provide an extra layer of protection to the devices against the multiplication and spread of potentially harmful bacteria and microbes. The Socket Rx Suite mobility solution for healthcare providers can be used in such applications as bedside point of care, medication administration, e-prescribing, asset tracking, and implementing electronic medical records. The suite also features Wi-Fi and an extended battery, and integrates with any Bluetooth-enabled device in the facility,
Lab tests performed by Antimicrobial Test Laboratories, LLC ensure the efficacy of the antimicrobial device casing according to the industry standard test, JIS Z 2801. The testing method is designed to quantitatively measure the ability of an antimicrobial surface to kill or inhibit the growth of microorganisms. The lab test results demonstrate that the antimicrobial casing shows greater than a 99 percent reduction in Staph. bacteria on the surface of the device over a 24-hour period. Additionally, when devices are cleaned with a Sani-Cloth, the antimicrobial properties are enhanced more than twofold.
“Mobile solutions are not one size fits all, so it’s important to understand the end user and their needs. Specifically for the healthcare industry, we want to help providers seamlessly integrate technology solutions that will help employees be more efficient, while providing quality patient care,” says Kevin Mills, CEO of Socket Mobile. “Healthcare providers know that the spread of bacteria or microbes is partly due to the tools and equipment that are shared between patients. The Rx Suite was developed specifically to help the industry better address patient safety concerns while helping the staff provide better service.”
