RapidFire Tools Ships Delivery System for Comprehensive Internal Security Services

Based on the vendor’s Detector network security appliance, the new offering features subscription-based, unlimited use licensing that lets MSPs offer internal threat mitigation assistance to all of their customers at no incremental cost.

RapidFire Tools Inc. has launched an expanded edition of its Detector product designed to help MSPs create and deliver comprehensive services for mitigating internal security risks.

Introduced last May, Detector is an onsite appliance that scans networks daily for suspicious end user behaviors, unusual network configuration changes, and other anomalies that externally-focused security technologies like firewalls and spam filters often miss. The new Detector Service Delivery System (SDS) adds tools for designing and marketing internal threat security services to that appliance, along with enhanced components for setting security policies, responding to violations of those policies, and generating security-related support tickets.

“We’ve created in SDS a complete end-to-end system for delivering security services,” says Michael Mittel, president of RapidFire Tools, which is headquartered in Atlanta. The intent, he continues, is to help MSPs collect incremental revenue, differentiate themselves from competitors, earn increased customer loyalty, and lower administrative costs by preventing avoidable security breaches.

A new email response tool is one of several features in Detector SDS not included with the stand-alone Detector appliance. The system automatically sends alerts via email to a technician or end user about potentially dangerous activities, such as an employee logging into a computer they’re not authorized to use or granting themselves increased access privileges. The message includes links that the recipient can click to specify if the threat should be ignored, investigated, or remediated. Incidents that require follow-up appear in a cloud-based alert management portal.

Detector SDS also comes with tools for designing a tiered matrix of security service plans offering varied levels of protection, and then producing customer-ready datasheets comparing and contrasting those plans.

“It helps the MSP sell the services, and helps the client better understand what they’re getting for each of these levels of service,” Mittel says. The solution ships with 3 pre-configured plans that MSPs can customize and re-brand as desired.

Marketing collateral functionality in Detector SDS supplements service plan documentation with white-labelled and dynamically generated brochures, sales presentations, service agreements, and other resources.

Additional features exclusively available in the SDS edition of Detector include new support for HIPAA and PCI compliance policies and the ability to generate support tickets directly inside PSA solutions from Autotask Corp., ConnectWise, and Tigerpaw Software Inc.

A subscription-based service, Detector SDS costs $499 a month for an unlimited use license that authorizes MSPs to deploy the solution to any number of customer environments.

“The idea is every client should get one of these Detectors installed, because it’s a differentiating security service for the MSP, it’s valuable to the client, and there’s no additional cost,” Mittel says.

RapidFire Tool’s latest offering arrives at a time of proliferating security hazards and increased spending on security solutions. IDC expects global outlays for security hardware, software, and services to climb 8.2 percent in 2017 to $81.7 billion. By comparison, the analyst firm expects worldwide IT spending overall to grow 3.5 percent this year.
