Pulseway Adds MacOS Support to Remote Control System

Offered at no additional cost, the new functionality provides the same capabilities available before for Windows endpoints through Pulseway’s web-based RMM interface and mobile app.

Managed services software maker Pulseway has added support for MacOS devices to its remote control solution.

Offered at no additional cost, the new functionality extends the robust Mac administration capabilities already available in the company’s RMM platform, according to Marius Mihalec, Pulseway’s CEO.

“It completes the offering in terms of having the ability to not only remotely manage those endpoints, but also remote control into them and offer assistance to the end users,” he says. Previously, Mihalec adds, technicians had to employ a separate product from another vendor to provide such aid.

Pulseway’s web-based RMM interface and mobile app both now include the MacOS remote control feature, which provides the same capabilities available before for Windows endpoints, including chat, file transfers, and clipboard transfers. Remote control for Windows endpoints became part of the mobile app last November.

Just 5-6% of the devices a typical Pulseway user manages at present are Macs, Mihalec estimates. That’s up from 2% in the recent past, however, and continues to grow.

“We’re seeing an increase in the percentage of Mac endpoints in our customer base,” Mihalec says. Pulseway has additional administration capabilities for Apple hardware on the way as a result, he continues, including patch management for third-party applications. Patching for Windows-based applications has been part of Pulseway’s RMM system since April of last year.

Remote control for Linux endpoints is set to arrive early in 2021. Remote printing functionality for Windows endpoints and Macs is in development now, and is expected to appear in the remote control product’s next release.

In development as well and due to ship later this year is network management functionality that will let RMM users discover, administer, and remote into routers, switches, access points, and other network hardware. “We’ll be able to monitor the basic parameters and all the SNMP values, and alert you when they exceed a certain threshold,” Mihalec says.

With help from the automated workflow technology that Pulseway unveiled this April, users will also be able to trigger customized, multi-step remediation processes when alerts occur.

Pulseway’s RMM solution is one component of an integrated suite that includes PSA and backup systems too. A direct-to-cloud backup product debuted last December.
