Microsoft Revokes IUR and Competency Requirement Changes: Page 2 of 2

The abrupt about-face comes just days after Microsoft announced the revisions to partner program benefits and requirements, and in response to loud, widespread criticism from members. By Rich Freeman

“Our decision to rescind these changes required a thorough review, and a key determining factor was the connection and trust we have with you, our partners — a valuable asset we do not take for granted. Together, we can continue to be a catalyst for digital transformation industry wide.”

The long-term impact of this month’s turmoil on Microsoft’s relationships with its partners, however, remains to be seen.

“I’m expecting that this is a temporary regrouping, but hopefully Microsoft will now get together some partner panels before making the next decision on how to modify the partner programs," says Amy Babinchak, owner of Harbor Computer Services, a solution provider and silver-level Microsoft Partner Network member based in Royal Oak, Mich. “It seems to me that Microsoft doesn’t actually know who their partners are, that in making the original decision they looked at 10,000 foot data and that data always missing the boots on the ground doing the real work."
