Phoenix, Ariz.-based Avnet Inc.’s Avnet Government Solutions unit has added Cisco data center, storage, and networking solutions to its line card of General Services Administration (GSA) products. As a result, channel pros looking to sell Cisco products to federal government customers can now tap into the public sector distributor’s Government-Wide Acquisition Contract, rather than invest time and money in obtaining their own.
State, local, and education resellers have access to Cisco products through Avnet Government solutions now as well.
“Avnet made a public commitment to participation and growth in the government vertical market when Avnet Government Solutions was established in July 2014,” said Avnet Government Solutions president Pete Rzonca in a press statement. “Adding major manufacturers like Cisco to the Avnet GSA schedule is further evidence of Avnet’s commitment to this market.”
Avnet and Cisco have been partners in the data center market since 2010. Today’s announcement expands that relationship into a large but somewhat weak market, at least so far as federal IT spending is concerned. Though the Obama administration’s budget for fiscal year 2017 includes $89.9 billion in IT funding, that represents just a 1.3 percent increase over 2016.
