Earlier this year, we were talking up Y-cam’s $199 HomeMonitor. The plug-and-play security camera allows users to peep in on a home or surrounding property using any web-enabled computer or smartphone, all without monthly fees. Now, the company is adding Roku media players into that mix of viewing options. Y-cam just launched a whole Roku channel designed for its HomeMonitor system. The channel is now available via the Roku Channel Store-and it’s absolutely free to download. Once it’s loaded to the Roku, you can view those HomeMonitor channels right from the TV. Sure, it probably won’t help you while on vacation. (Unless you travel with your Roku box.) However, it’s a great option for viewing outdoor cameras or other areas of the house, without having to get off the couch. “Where other companies limit how customers access their home security, we’re listening to their demands and enabling them to monitor their home from the devices they already own,” said Devin Chawda, CEO of Y-cam. “We believe that HomeMonitor will change the way people use security cameras by bringing home security from the back room to the front room and adding a Roku channel gives customers another accessible and simple-to-use platform to use. So whether it’s being used to keep an eye on older relatives, kids, pets, or maybe a second home, this can all be done from the comfort of your own sofa.” Currently, Y-cam offers the HomeMonitor Indoor ($199.99) and HomeMonitor Outdoor ($349.99) options, both of which have infrared night vision, unlimited live view and unlimited motion alerts. Both cams can also record unlimited clips and keep them online for up to 7 days, all without any type of subscription fees.
